How you can help                 Events & Activities Creating Impact

Want to help? Here's how.

Lake Simcoe is crying for help. Research shows that phosphorus loading, population
growth and climate change are the main risk factors for the sustainability of Lake Simcoe.

Here are a few ways you can make a difference.

  • Choose Earth-friendly cleaning solutions - baking soda is a great all
purpose cleanser and deodorizer. Lemon juice is a good bleaching agent and
vinegar shines and cleans well. Grapefruit seed extract can be added to water
in a spray bottle to kill mold and mildew.

  • Have a healthy lawn - this is the most important thing you can do. Eliminate
phosphorus run-off from fertilizers. Great information is available from
Health Canada at http://www.healthylawns.net/ and The WAVE at
    www.thewaveprogram.com

  • Dispose of hazardous wastes properly. Use your recycle bins and learn about
composting. Decrease the need for toxics, phosphates and pesticides.

  • Use eco friendly car washes or if you must wash your car at home, do it on
your lawn with biodegradable soaps which will break down in the soil as
opposed to running off a paved driveway and into the waters.

  • Explore ways to shift to renewable energy in your home.

  • Plant trees - they absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen.
